For many, ComEd's smart grid needs an explanation...

ComEd filed its smart grid plan Monday, outlining how it plans to install about 130,000 smart meters this year in Berkeley, Brookfield, Cicero, Elmwood Park, Forest View, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, La Grange Park, Lyons, Norridge, North Riverside, Northlake, River Grove, Riverside, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Stickney, Stone Park and Westchester.

Another 370,000 meters are slated for 2013 in areas served by ComEd operating centers in south Chicago and the western suburbs. In 2014, another 520,000 meters will be installed.

Over 10 years, more than 4 million smart meters will be installed across ComEd's territory, which now takes in 3.8 million customers.

There is a hearing that began with ComEd (and their counterpart in southern/central Illinois, Ameren) this week to propose the rollout. Click on this link (http://www.icc.illinois.gov/docket/comment/) to arrive at the page where you can leave your comments. Simply scroll down the webpage to item 12-0298 (Commonwealth Edison Company) to locate the ‘Comment’ button. We have a voice – let’s be sure to use it. We need to step up to the plate, and fill the void where our General Assembly failed.  The ICC is required to disclose the volume of calls/emails received both for and against. You can review comment that others have left by clicking on "Details" then "Public Comments"
