Event Description

Article V and a Convention of the States

The Federal Government is broken. Is it time for citizens and States to take back their power?

Washington D.C. will never voluntarily relinquish its power. Left unchecked, the government will continue to bankrupt this nation and destroy the liberty of the people. Many believe that it is time for citizens and the States to act. Popular radio host Mark Levin’s new book, “The Liberty Amendments” has brought a renewed interest in Article V of the U.S. Constitution. There is a movement gaining ground to implement the ideas put forth in his book. Citizens for Self Governance is leading that effort.

Please join us as we start the New Year with guest speaker Mark Meckler, President of Citizens for Self-Governance. You’ve seen him on FOX News and other major media outlets.

Mark will speak about the four major abuses perpetrated by the federal government: 1.) The Spending and Debt Crisis; 2.) The Regulatory Crisis; 3.) Congressional Attacks on State Sovereignty; and 4.) Federal Takeover of the Decision-Making Process These abuses are not mere instances of bad policy. They are driving America towards an age of "soft tyranny" in which the government does not shatter men's wills but "softens, bends, and guides" them. If nothing is done to halt these abuses, there is a risk of becoming, as Alexis de Tocqueville warned in 1840, nothing more than "a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd." (Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, 1840).

Come and find out how YOU can play an active part in an Article V Convention of the States. The time for sitting on the sidelines has past.

Mark Meckler is the founder and President of Citizens for Self-Governance (CSG), an organization created to support grassroots activism in taking power from Washington, D.C., and returning it to its rightful owners, the citizens of the United States. Mark is the co-founder and former National Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, the largest tea party organization in the nation. He left the organization in February 2012 and founded CSG to expand the self-governance movement beyond the partisan divide. Meckler graduated from San Diego State University-California State University with his BA in English Literature. He later received his J.D. from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated with honors. http://www.conventionofstates.com/

Patriot's Breakfasts are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. There is no charge to attend. An a la carte breakfast is available for a nominal fee.

Citizens for Self Governance’s Mark Meckler makes the case for a Convention of States - Interviewed on Glen Beck Radio (here)

On TheBlazeTV (here)

In Forbes (here)

There is a little known, but Powerful, "emergency cord: built into Article V.This allows a super majority of States - 34 to call a convention to propose amendments, 38 to ratify proposed amendments - to trump am obstructionist federal government and amend the Constitution.

Mark Levin gave a great overview of his book "The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic" on his 9/11/2013 radio show (available here)

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the web service that we use, all of our events automatically have an "RSVP" feature. Many people do not want to "sign up" or RSVP. Please don't feel that you MUST RSVP for our events. Most of our own members never bother to RSVP! We usually have between 150-200 people attend every meeting, but rarely have more than 10 RSVP's showing on the website. An RSVP helps us to insure enough food and seating, but everyone is welcome even if they don't RSVP. Please feel free to call Carol at 630-830-0653 with any questions. Thanks, and see you there!
